Most people don’t think about bone health until something breaks.
But what if you could see bone loss before it becomes a problem?
That was the focus of a recent webinar hosted by Sōlaria Biō in collaboration with DexaFit, featuring Mark Charbonneau, PhD (VP of R&D at Sōlaria Biō) alongside insights from the DexaFit team.
The conversation brought together real-world patient data and emerging microbiome science to answer a critical question: Are we waiting too long to think about bone health?
Who is DexaFit?
DexaFit is a leading provider of DEXA (dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry) scans, offering detailed insights into:
- Bone density
- Body composition (fat vs. lean mass)
- Metabolic health
Unlike traditional screening models that often begin later in life, DexaFit works with a broad population—including individuals in their 30s, 40s, and 50s—providing earlier visibility into changes that would otherwise go unnoticed.
Their data offers a unique, real-world view into how bone health is changing across age groups.
Together, DexaFit and Sōlaria Biō are partnering to connect early bone density data with emerging microbiome science, helping patients understand their risk sooner and take more informed, proactive steps to support their bone health.
What DexaFit Is Seeing in Their Data
DexaFit has performed thousands of DEXA scans across a wide range of patients—not just older adults, but people in their 30s, 40s, and 50s.
As Adam Kadela, COO and Head of Product at DexaFit, shared: “We’re seeing low bone density much earlier than people expect, even in individuals who are otherwise healthy and active.”
This real-world data reveals a consistent pattern:
- Bone loss often begins before symptoms
- Many people with osteopenia are unaware
- By the time routine screening begins, meaningful bone loss may already be present
The takeaway: Waiting for guidelines may mean missing the window for early action.

Poll Insights: What DexaFit Owners Are Seeing In Their Locations
To ground the conversation in real-world experience, we asked DexaFit owners what they’re seeing across their client base. Their responses offer a practical view into how and when people are actually engaging with bone health today.
1. What describes your current familiarity with bone health in the context of your DexaFit clients?
Bone health is a topic that comes up a lot for most respondents, which makes sense. The DEXA scan might be the first interaction that a lot of folks are having when they’re thinking about their bones.
“Often people aren’t thinking about bone health until they’re elderly and thinking about osteoporosis. So it’s really cool that, as part of DexaFit, people are getting an early read on that and getting information about their bone health.”
2. Which of these groups are you seeing most often in your current client base?
- Women who are peri- or post-menopausal
- Women or men with elevated body fat or high visceral fat
- Clients with osteopenia flagged on a prior scan
- Clients with normal scans but are asking about bone health
- All of the above
Overwhelmingly, the answer was that people see a mix of clients. “I think it’s important that you’re not seeing just one kind of person,” Mark highlighted.
“The benefit people would have from anti-inflammatory strategies to preserve bone is going to apply to a lot of different groups of people in your DexaFit locations.”
Why Earlier Bone Density Screening Matters
Mark emphasized that bone loss is not a sudden event. It’s a gradual, biological process.
“Bone loss doesn’t start when you’re diagnosed. It starts much earlier, driven by changes in inflammation and immune signaling.”
DEXA scans, like those performed at DexaFit, provide:
- Early visibility into bone density
- A measurable baseline
- A way to track changes over time
As Adam noted: “The biggest value of a DEXA scan is awareness. Once people see their data, the conversation changes.”

The Missing Link: What the Science Says
Mark connected DexaFit’s real-world findings to underlying biology.
Bone loss is influenced by:
- The immune system
- Inflammatory signaling
- The gut microbiome
This relationship (known as the gut–bone axis) helps explain why bone loss can begin silently and progress over time.
“The gut is where much of your immune system lives. When that system becomes dysregulated, it can directly influence bone remodeling.”
Put simply:
- Gut → immune activation
- Immune activation → inflammation
- Inflammation → increased bone breakdown
This is where Sōlaria Biō’s work comes in.
Bōndia was developed to address bone loss through the gut–bone axis, not just through nutrient supplementation.
As Mark explained: “If inflammation is driving bone loss, then addressing it at the source—through the gut—becomes a logical intervention point.”
In a 12-month randomized, placebo-controlled trial of 286 postmenopausal women, Bōndia significantly reduced bone loss in higher-risk groups (up to 85% reduction).
The Bottom Line: Bone Density Knowledge is Power
Most people wait for a diagnosis. But the combination of early data (DEXA scans) and a better understanding of biology (gut–bone axis) creates an opportunity to act earlier.
Together, they point to the same conclusion:
- Bone loss starts earlier than most people think
- It is measurable earlier than guidelines suggest
- And it is driven by biology we are only beginning to fully understand
Because bone health isn’t just about avoiding fractures. It’s about maintaining strength, mobility, and independence over time.
